Minutes of the August 28, 2001 meeting of the STNYLUG -- We had a real nice turnout - many new faces, some 'regulars' and some from the past (welcome back)! Bill brought in his system and gave a demonstration on 'WIN4LIN', a way to run a Windows instance on top of Linux in a terminal-like window or full screen. Nice if you NEED to run a Windows app or 2 once in a while and do NOT want to dual-boot. Not TOO pricy, less than $100. Much discussion on the requirement to use MS stuff because Linux is lacking similar apps. Concensus is that there are still a few areas where this is true, but the gap is narrowing. Mike discussed (bragged about :-) ) his newest 'toy' and teased us with the manual. Doesn't everyone have a dual processor desktop machine just to read e-mail ???? And as usual there was the 'required' MS bashing and other sundry war stories, all somehow, finally relating to Open Source Software, LINUX and other associated topics. There were no surprise refreshments, but the host did give away a couple of souvenirs. Respectfully submitted, Your Host Attendance -- Craig Barrie Dan Dave John Angie Jon Bill Mike
